Here are a few of the guitars I
use. Most are Stratocasters (I like
Stratocasters!). The Strats look
stock, but they have all been
customised in some way -
usually with Di Marzio stacked
Humbuckers (DON'T do this to
your favourite sounding Strat -
you might add some balls, but
you'll lose that distinctive single -
coil Strat sound - I know!) and
some with Kahler or Floyd Rose
tremolo systems (I like Kahler &
Floyd Rose tremolo systems etc
etc!)
You can see from 'Blackie' what
I meant about aesthetics and the
GK 2A pick-up - note the black
electrician's tape over the little
cable that goes into the GK 2A.
That's there to stop me from
ripping the cable out of the pick-
up when I'm posing about on
stage. Yep, I've done that. So, beware!
I've got seven Stratocasters altogether, plus another two I decided not to mention - so that makes ten
in all (including another one I forgot all about). Or is it eleven? Oh, I've got a white Telecaster with the
GK 2A on it as well. I use it as a live spare guitar mainly.
'The Wolf' was built for me about ten years ago by Joe Gormal of Wolf Guitars in Edinburgh. He did all
the custom work on my guitars till he went off to work as a guitar tech with Jethro Tull and Genesis. He
was last seen wolf-spotting in the Canadian wilds. It's true!
The Les Paul is beautiful (even with the Kahler!) and for years was my main guitar. It weighs a ton, but
fortunately I have a six-pack (Tennent's), so throwing it around on stage was never a problem!
The Yamaha APX-5A is a very playable little electro-acoustic. I'd definitely recommend one and I didn't
have to break the bank to buy it - just as well!
The Ickle Pink Strat is nice too - but it's quite hard to play.........and it's a tad quiet. Crap for live work. Or
studio work to be honest.
